Hen keeps chicks. they all died

2 Hens laid eggs for the first time since I kept them. I decided to let the hen take care of the chicks instead fo me. the first hen at 16 chicks. They all started dying until there were 3 left so I tok them in for my care since the hen's care was killing them. The second hen had 5 chicks. one died so I took the rest in to keep with the others. That makes 7 chicks taken it for me. Eventually they 5 died in my care after one day of me taking them in.the last 2 lasted for a 4 days. until one died for no reason when they both looked healthy. Now there is only one survivng left. Any ideas why it died?

Are they young hens?

I’ve heard they may act like they want to be moms but they aren’t good at it yet or dedicated enough yet. I don’t know if that is true.

Were they acting ok when you took over?

they acted fine when I took over and yes they are new hens probably why
