All 4 of my hems have been laying in the nesting box an now all of a sudden one has started laying from the roost. :he Why? How do I stop this? Yesterday's egg was laying in the PDZ on poop board, this mornings egg had hit lip on the poop board and broke. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

No way to fix that , it just happens .

I assuming nesting boxes are clean and there are a few, you can put fake eggs in the boxes to remind them what they’re for... they are not machines and just like children they do have their own ideas

There are two boxes for 4 hens but they use the same one. I was wondering if she needed to lay before the sun came up? I just assume hens lay in the morning or through out the day, not while roosting. Well I will put the fake eggs in their nesting box to see if that helps re-establish where they need to go, hopefully this was just a fluke.

I don't think it's intentional, I assume they don't realize that they have to lay and it falls out in their sleep. My most recent one was on the nest a long long time. Hours. She finally got off in the late afternoon and there was no egg. In the morning there was her egg under the roost.

I was just getting concerned because of it happening two days in a row.....ok I won't panic and give her time to realize she needs to lay before bed time or after waking up

I have noticed it more with mine as well lately. I have had several stress factors with my flock when I started noticing it. From introducing 5 new girls to installing and new coop and upgrading the run. Plus we had been having multiple days in a row with temps over 100. I just chalked mine up to a combination of heat and environmental stress throwing their systems off.
