I have an EE mix hen who lays very very sporadically. During the latest part of winter and early spring she would give me an egg maybe every 3 days or so (she had just started-I supposed it would pick up eventually). Now I'm lucky if she gives me one a week. I have heard of breeds that aren't good layer...but this is ridiculous! The only other breed in her mix is RIR...so I'm baffled as to what is going on. She appears healthy and happy. Everyone else is laying like clockwork. I thought about offering oyster shell, but haven't yet since everyone else has nice thick shells. I also find her often singing about someone else's egg (she'll go in the nest box for a while them come out singing, but not laying her own egg-she is my only blue/green egger). Hens can only lay one color, right(I know, crazy, but she has be very confused)? So, any ideas? Is she just a bad layer? Anyone?

I think she's just a poor layer. I had an EE a few years ago like that, she would lay 1 or 2 eggs a week.

I have a very erratic EE layer as well. Maybe 3-4 eggs a week for 3-4 weeks then nothing for 3-4 months. She doesn't appear sick, so I guess it's just her.
Yesterday she surprised my with one on the ramp.

Yup, same here - I believe she's just a poor layer. My EE hen used to give me about 4 eggs a week, then 3, then 2, and now I'm lucky if I get two a month.

I do worry of her though - Her eggs are freakishly huge, and she always has a hard time laying them. Plus she eats like a starved village kid.

wow...I'm glad I'm not alone. It's just my kind of luck I guess. I keep a small flock and she is not making a great argument for staying here (she about as much use as a roo when it comes to eggs). I have 10 EE/frizzle EE chicks right now, so maybe some of the pullets from that clutch can step up to the plate and deliver
