Hi everyone! This morning when we let down out our flock we noticed that our isa brown hen had a limp. She was out all day yesterday and we never saw her limp oil this morning. I checked her foot for bumble foot but it doesn't look like thats it. She also laid an egg today so I don't think theres a blockage. She has been eating & drinking regularly and seems to be acting normal other than the limp. I was just wondering if there is any way we could speed up her healing process from whatever happened or anything to keep her out of pain. Thanks!

She may have lost her balance and landed wrong when she jumped off the roost. Rest is best. She will probably do fine on her own. You could put her in a carrier to encourage her to sit. A thin dark cover would really put her to sleep.
A thought, a thick layer of bedding can make bad landings easier. In the summer I often forget to put a thick enough layer. I remember when I hear someone THUD onto the floor. Oooops.
Keep us posted.

Could just be a sprain.Soaking her foot in warm Epsom salt water for fifteen minutes every day may help her recover faster. You can also give her 1/4 of baby aspirin to help reduce inflammation. The baby aspirin can be hidden in yogurt or can be diluted in water and given orally with a eye dropper. You can reduce dead tissue cells by wrapping vet wrap around the affected area.Finding the affected area is as simple as feeling up and down the leg and finding the hottest spot.Correct Perch height and adequate bedding below will help prevent leg injuries.
