This is Nancy, and this is the only strange behavior she is exhibiting today. It's hot (over 90 degrees), but she has plenty of access to fresh water and shade. Her poops are normal, she's eating like normal. She was attacked by her sister, Lil, which was also very unusual. I don't know if that was due to this strange noise. Should I be concerned?

Thanks, all!

i dont want to jump to any conclusions but i think that she is fine. Sometimes my chickens also make strange noises. If she doesnt normally do this and it continues then you should look in to it some more but if it does not continue and she only did it today it should be fine :)
once again im not an expert but just giving my opinion :)
it could also be that there is some tension in the group. if she was attacked by the other one this might be the case. i have a chicken who was once the real leader of the group. but then i saw that she had been pecked by the others and now she has been quiet ever since.

Thanks, Chickflick! I didn't want to start panicking yet either, but thought it would be wise to get a second opinion :) Much appreciated!

my pleasure :) i would love it if you could keep me updated on how she goes. BTW lovely chicken you have looks healthy :)

Following, because my Easter Egger sound exactly like that yesterday afternoon. We brought her in and treated with Vet Rx, and it improved almost immediately. She still wheezed a little into the evening, and a tiny bit this morning, but it's gone this afternoon.

I'm glad to read that the wheezing/honking isn't necessarily something horrible. I'll continue to monitor my chicken, and good luck with your girl! I hope she gets better.

if it continues tommorow i would definaitley treat it before it turns into something serious. But if you wanna be sure you could always treat her earlier ;)

Good to hear that I need to watch for that in the heat. Can they also do that if it's not necessarily hot, but humid and muggy? My chickens haven't done that in the heat (yet), but yesterday was 75-80 degrees but really muggy.
