I have a hen that was just fine and a couple hours later I found her laying between the waterer and feeder. I picked her up and could not find any injuries. Wings are fine but does not want to stand and she was up on her roost that night. I brought her in the house ( this was 3 days ago) and she is moving around in the bin and seems more with it. I am thinking it may have been the heat but not sure. She just turned 4 months old.

Any thoughts?

Heat is very hard on some chickens. How is she in the pecking order? Did she get stuck between the feeder and waterer? Are her legs moving and are her toes curled under? How is she eating and drinking, and what do her droppings look like? Is her comb becoming pink or red? Do you have a rooster who might have hurt her trying to mate? I would bring her out into the flock today for a supervised visit, and watch her with the flock. Do this daily until she rejoins them. I don’t like to remove anyone from the flock for more than 3-5 days, since they may get picked on. Some Poultry NutriDrench 1-2 ml orally or an electrolyte and vitamin for a day or two may be helpful. Hopefully, it is just something temporary and not something like Mareks.

Hello,
Thank you for the response.

*she is in a separate pen with her 3 siblings. We have not added them to our current flock with the rooster so no harm there.
*Plenty of space between feeder and waterer.
* just got her out of bin and put on the floor to see if she would stand and would not put her left leg down. If I grab her leg and “feel around” her upper leg she will move it but if I put my hand on her foot to see if she will push on it she won’t.
* I looked under the feathers on both legs, belly no visible injuries.
* vent is clean and she contracted a couple times when looking at it.
* she had poop stuck to feathers under vent, I cleaned them off.
I have the rooster booster (B-12)in her water but I might give her a few drops directly.
