Yesterday i noticed my 2 year old Buff Orpington was on the roost all day. I took her down made sure she ate and drank. She went right back to the roost. Her crop was empty and i didnt feel a egg.
Again today she is on the roost again.

Awhile ago before I rehomed my old rooster two of my hens used to hide on the roost during the day. I hope your hen isn’t sick!

Do you have a young eager cockrell ?

Or is she being bullied by other hens?

How big is the coop? Yard/run?
No cockerels. And if there was one they are seperated right now as the youngest chicks are 9 weeks.

She is at then top of the pecking order and i havent seen her being bullied.

Coop is a 6 x 4 and rhe run is a 20 x 16. There is 9 hens, one will be going soon and 3 sleep on thr ground still. I am going to add onto the coop.

When i did have some cockerels my hens would rather bully them than hide. The cockerels learned their spot before i rehomed them.
I hope she isnt either. She has never done it before, she does try and go broody but has a specific spot to do that

I have a similar situation with one of my Rhode Island Reds. She spends 23 hours in the nesting box and doesn't go up on the roosting bars at night. She also doesn't seem to be laying any eggs.

Is it hot where you are?
I've noticed roosting is sometimes a "cool off" position depending on the temperature around the roost. If it's shady and well ventilated, maybe a bit breezy from an open door, etc. the open air underneath them seems to feel nice.
It's not my birds first choice, but if we don't soak the ground in the shade on the hottest days, and if there's a bit of breeze, they like it.

If it's not that, and it's not hiding from a cockerel or bully as someone suggested... then I'd start to be worried about her health. Roosting can be an airway clearing position, when they hang their head down. Have you seen any discharge from the mouth? Is her crop empty in the morning? Does she make a whistling sound when breathing?

It has bedn hot here. There is good ventilation and i do have windows open.

She is just standing on the roost(not like laying down at night). I havent noticed any discharge and her crop is emptu in the morning.no whistling.

She is out dustbathing right now so im hoping it was just bet cooling off
