Hen Oozing White Substance

The hen feels hot to the touch and has a swollen abdomen. Whenever I pick her up white poo bubbles out of her cloaca. I am feeding her yogurt and chick feed with probiotics. Is there anything else I can do?

How old is she, and does she lay eggs? Is she passing some normal material in her droppings? The white material is probably urates/uric acid or kidney waste. It can dribble out if there is some vent damage or vent gleet, a fungal infection. Vent gleet causes raw sore skin and missing feathers around the vent, and a bad odor. Could she be egg bound? Do you have any calcium tablets or Tums that could be given into her beak to swallow in case of a stuck egg? How does her crop feel? Has she been eating? A swollen lower belly could be water belly/ascites. Is it squishy or firm?

Her bowel movements look loose. The leaking fluid occurs whenever I pick her up. I included a photo of her vent before I washed it to show the fluid that will accumulate.

If you suspect vent gleet which I described in post 2, you can soak her bottom in warm soapy water or Epsom salts to clean her up. Then apply some Nustock Cream to her vent twice a day. You can also use miconazole or Monistat cream. Is her crop emptying overnight? Does she have any signs of sour crop? Here is a good article about vent gleet:

I brought her to an avian vet for an impacted crop that turned out to be overeating. Her fecal float turned out to be clear. She’s on cephalexin for a possible infection.
