Yes, this is the always common question. But I purchased 2 golden comets from TS Wednesday. One of them by yesterday has no new wing feathers or tail feathers, while the rest of the bunch of mixed chicks, including one of the golden comets has grown down long wing feathers, and tails starting to emerge. This one, nada. So, roo or hen? Here are the 2 comets for comparison. The one with wing feathers is marked so we can tell them apart.

You're worried about the first one? Looks female to me, because of the brown (down and feathers). Golden Comets are one kind of sex-link: the males hatch out yellow, and grow up white, while the females hatch out brown and grow up brown. They often have some white in their tails and wings, but they reliably have enough brown to be unmistakeable, as compared with their brothers.

The slowest feathering chick I have ever had was a sexlink pullet. Horribly slow to feather, very clearly a female as she grew up. Since that time, I never try to guess gender based on feathering speed!
