I have a 3 year old Rhode Island Red chicken. Pretty sure she's a hen, but she is so much bigger than our other RIR girls and has been since they were chicks. We don't have a rooster, could she have decided to take on the roll? She has done the dance at me with her wing down but doesn't flog me, doesn't mount the girls and really just has strong self preservation instincts as she has fled instead of staying to protect in the sight of danger. I even checked the vent and it looks small and brownish? So I'm guessing not laying anymore but I know she used to.

She's definitely a hen. If she's not laying, she could have a reproductive issue, which in turn may cause a hormonal imbalance. That may make her look and act a bit "roosterish," but she's for sure a hen :)
