Hi all:

I know the heat is making us all cranky, but one of my hen's has an injury from being pecked (repeatedly?) on her head, now her comb is partially torn and head is bloody. I don't have the ability to separate her, we have only one coop with attached run. I put antibiotic ointment on her head, any other suggestions? I could fence off an area behind the coop/run which is very shady and secluded for her to recuperate. Thoughts?

I would separate her or they will peck until she is dead. Have to heal that wound and get rid of the blood too.

The shady area for a recipe space sounds good. I'd also try to wash the blood off with something soft to not irritate the skin. Then, you should put a very thin layer of Neosporin or another antibiotic ointment like it. After that it would be best to give her some soft bedding, food, and water. Soon she'll make a recovery and then you can put her back out when she heals.
