Hen pecked rooster

some of my hens will not let the rooster eat or drink, I thought at first he was ill, he looked so bad. then I noticed that the hens he was with pushed him away and he let them. they are all old english, I pulled him out and he doing a lot better. he's with one hen now and is a regluar gentelman. is this common or rare? I've never seen it before.

Hens will do that if they do not accept the rooster as their flock leader.My Game hen also does this.When he does his dance around her or tries to mate with her she will peck at him and chase him.The rooster is a game bird too,and he's older than her.
