We have 20 seven week old assorted chicks. We also have 5 four week old Golden laced Wyandotte's. One of the Wyandotte's is getting picked on, She's missing a lot of feathers and has scabs all over her body. Although she carries herself well (of course) I'm worried she won't make it. I bought the Wyandotte's for my six year old daughter, she thinks they're pretty and their feathers look like butterflies. She is very worried about this little chick. I was thinking of protecting it in a 2' x2' hardware cloth sanctuary while it mends. It would still be with the rest of the chicks but they wouldn't be able to peck at her. Will this work? If not what if anything can I do?

That would be a good idea. She will likely have a rough time when you reintroduce her. Hopefully you can help alleviate this by identifying the worst "bully" or two and separating them for several days when you return the chick to the flock. The one who is being reintroduced generally returns at the lowest point in the pecking order. Good luck!

I figured I'd just let nature take it's course, I never separated her. I was sure we'd loose her. Well it's been two months; right now she's out there running around the yard with the rest of the birds. I can't tell her apart from the other Wyandotte's.
