One of my 5 hens is picking out all the feathers on any part of her body she can reach. I thought the others were doing it, but after isolating her, I realized she was doing it to herself (she was so unhappy being isolated, I have since put her back with the others). I have dusted her, her coop-mates, coop and nest boxes for mites. I have tried painting her bald spots with Blu Cote, peruvian balsam, and a product called Rooster Booster No More Pick Lotion - none phased her in the least. The girls get lay crumble free choice plus fresh greens or fruit or other treat every day. They also have plenty of room, although not in a pasture (it's semi urban here - no pastures). She otherwise appears healthy, happy, and is laying nearly every day. I am out of ideas, so hope someone out there has some suggestions -
Thank you!

As far as I know, feather picking is either caused by stress, boredom, or lack of protein. So... does that help???

try giving her some chopped egg and plain yogurt
non-medicated chick feed or grower feed
dry, but moistened kitten food..or a spoonful of canned beef cat food
or mealy worms.
poultry vitamins

do a thorough check of her skin for signs of redness, irritation, crust, etc..

Thanks for your suggestions. Her bottom is red and irritated - what should I do for this?
