My speckled sussex was in the laying box this morning for a good half hour or so at least. But when I went to gather the eggs, there wasn't one from her! (I only have 7 chicks laying now, all different breeds and I can tell their eggs apart). This seems really strange to me! Should I be concerned?

How did she act? If she flattens out like a pancake in the nestbox, puffs up and shrieks/growls or hisses at you when you approach her in there, she's going broody.

I just got back from a trip, so I was not around when my hubby put her in time out. Ill have to see today what she does. But, it's not only when she's near the nest..It's any time they come near..She's just a big bully..

Ok..I totally meant to post this on another thread..Sorry..loosing my mind today..

Mine do that fairly often. I think they like the boxes. Sometimes something draws them out of the box before they lay and then they go back later to lay the egg. Mine are also really variable in how long they like to sit before and after they lay.
