Our hen, Bernadette, has been sitting for about 20 days or so, and today she got back in the wrong nesting box and her original nest is kinda cool. What can I do to help her? Are the eggs dead since they are kinda cold? Husband saw her get off nest about 4 hours ago, and when we went out to check on everyone after the bad storm, she was in the wrong nest. 🥺. We are clueless....

What has the temperature been like in your area?

I've had similar accidents and never knew how long they'd been off the nest, but I've always had some still hatch if I returned her to her spot. I think there's still a chance for them if she'll keep sitting.

Do you have an incubator? If you do, I would get it out, just in case. Can you put her back on? Chickens can be so frustrating. I've had them play musical nests before, just have tried to keep the eggs attended to! (Any egg, pick an egg! lol.)

I don't think it's hopeless, though. I had some eggs (the last two that a hen laid before she passed away) that didn't get sat on for probably like 8 hours, and one of them still hatched.

I would suggest getting an incubator, if you don't have one, though, for times like these. Hopefully you can get her back on the nest. Let us know how it goes!

Should I just move her back? She's not gone happy... I'll have to move her in a few minutes. We are currently having some bad thunderstorms and a baby Muscovy got too cold, and I'm trying to warm it back up.....do y'all have any suggestions to help this little baby? I have it on a heating pad, and wrapped up in a washcloth and he is dryer, but still not acting right.

Days in high 70s, lows in 60s.

With your hen, take one egg and place it next to her so she can see it and knows it is their (touching her feathers but not under her) if she rolls the egg under her give them all to her and keep a close eye on her incase she moves again
If she has no interest in the egg I would leave her for a minute and come back as sometimes they don't like being watched putting their eggs under
If she attacks the egg then I would take all the eggs and put them in an incubator (hope you have one just incase)
Good luck and again I am sorry for your loss I have had many a baby die and it hurts every time :hugs
