I have an Easter Egger hen who went into a nesting box about an hour ago now and hasn't come out, i checked on her twice wondering if she had decided to sit on her egg but she hadn't laid yet. Should i be concerned? I haven't been getting many eggs since the girls are all molting and about a week ago i found an egg with a soft shell. I provide them with oyster shells for calcium and each hen has her own box, she isn't hiding, she's top of the pecking order. When I've checked on her (after about thirty minutes of hearing her scratch around) she didn't appear to be straining. She hasn't laid an egg in about two weeks and she looks like she's about done with the molt so I'm wondering if she's having problems returning to laying I've read that can happen.
Also i just switched the chickens litter over to sand three days ago and i absolutely love it but I'm wondering if she's having issue's because she's always laid on pine shavings? It's probably nothing and maybe she's just having an off day because of the molt but I'm still pretty concerned. I'll probably be back in ten minutes to say that she laid but i get anxious at the first sign of anything being wrong:he

An hour isn't a big deal. Patience is a virtue and "I WANT IT NOW".
If she hasn't laid in a while, the problem shouldn't be calcium since she would have replenished her body stores in the blood and medullary bone. (that's the source of most of the egg shell calcium carbonate)

Ok, i have my chickens as pets not as livestock so all i really care about is her health, but it makes me really paranoid when something just doesn't seem normal. Also i went out to check on her a minute ago and she had laid her egg:celebrate. Thank you
