Or maybe I am in denial and my hen really is a rooster...

I have a California white hen(?) and recently she started "crowing" in the morning. I have read that a dominant female in the absence of a rooster will take on the rooster role. If I temporarily house her in an environment where there is a rooster, will this behaviour stop? And if so, can I re-introduce her into my flock if it does stop. And if so will she start crowing again?

A lot of variables I know.

How old is she? Yes, hens can start to crow sometimes. I think from experience that she would stop crowing if a rooster was around, but she might just start again when you brought her back to the flock. My hen that was crowing once was also laying at the same time so maybe it's not a problem?

Can you post a pic?

Wow, that looks like a full grown bird! If it is only 2 months, that comb is huge! It's tail doesn't say rooster, but that comb...looking at the tail again, I may see a droopy feather. I think you may have a roo on your hands! Sorry! What does the crow sound like?

Hmmmm.. How to describe a sound... It sounds like the bird has laryngitis, and after a few crows s/he goes through the motions of trying to crow, but no sound.

Maybe I can get s short video when it happens again. It is usually only in the morning and only for a short time.

That is 100% rooster. A crowing hen is an older, dominant hen with hormone issues, usually. That's just a regular rooster.
