One of my barred rock hens decided a week ago that she was going to start sitting on the eggs that were in the nesting box. (only one of the eggs is hers) Since then, she ate a couple, but still she sits. I removed her from the nest today, and she went crazy. The eggs were covered in yolk, and not looking to good. I threw out the eggs. She tried to get right back in the nest and sit. All my chickens use the same nesting box, and now I haven't a clue where any of the other chickens are laying their eggs. Plus I have a broody muscovy duck in the nesting box next to that one, and it's causing the duck a great deal of stress. I have found my chickens trying to squeeze themselves in the duck's nest to lay their eggs. The duck has been on her eggs almost a month, and I don't want to upset her. What should I do? The hen even sat outside on the ground on two eggs that fell out of the chicken coop !! Can she be snapped out of the behavior??

Thanks for any advice....

Give that sweet duck her own private nesting box. Section it off, so those layers can't crowd her. Try somegolf balls in the empty unused layer nests and hope those layers take the hint.
