Do you have a Tractor Supply or similar store?Thank you! I couldn't find what these bugs were anywhere online! Friends with chickens had never seen them before either!
Thanks for your help! I'll see if I can track those products down!
Thank you! I'll look around here. We're in Canada, and not sure I've heard of these before now, but we live on the border, so I can make run down and see what's nearby in Idaho if it's not available here.Do you have a Tractor Supply or similar store?
They should have fly/pest control products somewhere in/around the horse section. TSC has Garden/Poultry dust and Permethrin concentrate (brands sometimes varies).
I put the dust in a sock, then use that like a powder puff, tap it on the feathers to release a fine dust, work that through the feathers all the way to the skin. On your broodies, make sure to get it under the wings/on the wings, back around the vent, underneath - everywhere! LOL Especially if they will be hatching chicks soon. Chicks will climb under the wings, lice/louse will get on chicks...IF that happens, dust those tiny babies (lightly) but often they will just get enough dust by being under Mama.
Sorry for the story...
Permethrin concentrate - get that too. Mix it according to the booklet that's attached to the back of the bottle. Spray your coop/nesting boxes, roosting bars/crevices, etc.
Oh, edited to add. The sock! Keep it filled, you'll never get the powder back into the flimsy carboard container. Store the sock in a jar or container with a tight lid, label the container. I just use a mason jar, but anything to keep it dry and sealed will work. Then if you need to dust birds again, your sock is ready to go.
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what specific products you have available in Canada, but you should be able to find something suitable.Thank you! I'll look around here.
