For the past month my hen has been acting weird.
She is a 5-6 year old silkie hen. I had posted about her a while ago as her poop was sticking to her vent and it was odd.
Now I've noticed she has been expelling a clear sticky liquid any time she lowers her head slightly or I go to pick her up. Im aware this is not good at all since chickens shouldn't have the ability to barf. It's a big issue as she cannot eat properly even if I raise her food container. She cannot preen herself effectively either.
As of the mentioned poop issue, it has been looking better lately and seems to be of normal color and consistency. Although it smells very pungent, almost like a solvent of sort like alcohol or thinner (it's very strange and I honestly don't know how to describe it).
I had started a week of antibiotics (Amoxicillin) as a precaution and that was completed yesterday, it seemed to have helped her get some of her energy back but the problem persists.
She is a bit light and lethargic, but does seem to be in better spirits than other sick hens I've had.
Ive been giving her pellets and wet dog food as she can get both water and protein from those.
Some more background about her is that she has not been laying in about a year or more. She's on the older side so I assume it's that but I feel like it may be worth mentioning.
Something to note is that this year Ive had the worst case of chicken illnesses and I cannot decipher why. Of my flock of 7, two died this year. One of them was an older rooster who got sick often, but a 4 year old hen also passed too. She got sick, recovered, and ended up getting sick and passed away from that.
Any ideas as to what it may be?
Any treatments, info, leads?
Anything would be appreciated.
Let me know if any extra information is needed.
Thanks!
