hen with bloody comb

I have a small flock 3 hens 1 rooster....leg horn breed....noticed 1 had a very bloody comb not certain about how to treat.has anyone used proxide to clean wound... is there any cream I can use on the wound I would appreciate thank you
 
Hi there. You may not have gotten responses because there is a special section of the forum for posting about injuries. You probably already cleaned up her comb, but I can share some pointers. Hydrogen peroxide is fine for the initial cleaning, but repeated use can slow healing. You can also use styptic blood stop type products on chickens. The only first aid products for humans that are not good for birds are anything with benzocaine or any pain relief ingredient ending with "caine."

I like using a product called Blu-Kote because it is antiseptic and the blue color helps camouflage the blood and reduces the temptation for the other chickens to continue pecking. (red color triggers pecking) You can get Blu-Kote at farm stores, it is usually with the horse first aid.
