I have a 8 month old Ameraucana hen that started laying in January; however she has not laid in 2-3 weeks. She had a small bald spot where her tail feathers would be and the other flock members began pecking her near the same time she quit laying. In a week she had a baseball sized area of feathers removed around her vent. I have now separated her from them. I have sprayed her with Vetericyn. Their pecking caused her pin feathers to bleed I have not seen any cuts on her skin. I am not sure what caused this feather loss.

Does anyone know what may be wrong with her? At first, I thought it may be vent gleet but there is no discharge or smell and it appears pretty healthy to me. She does have some matted dirty feathers below her vent.

I have included photos.

When I got her at 2 months old she only had a couple of tail feathers. I assumed that her previous flock members were pecking her. She has never had a full set of tail feathers since I have had her.

I have a SLW that had the fluffiest butt. Winter took a toll on her. Her flock mates picked all of her fabulous fluff out so now her butt looks like a man's bald head. It looks perfectly healthy and I spray vetrymcin on it just to be safe. I'm thinking of coating it with white diaper rash cream just to distract her coop mates from pecking further. Mine still lays daily and seems healthy otherwise. Photo is her before. I don't have an after.

Did the diaper rash cream help? I'm having the same issue and trying to find a solution.

. She has new fuzz growing right now. She has been molting the last couple of weeks so the new growth could be because of that. I'm not sure but it definitely took away the raw lappearance.
