Hi all, I went to put my chickens in their coop tonight and found my 2yo buff Orpington hen lying on her back next to the ramp, with one foot in the air, toes curled. I picked her up and did not see any sign of injury, but when I put her down again she walked a few steps and almost fell. She is limping very badly. I put her in the coop and she got herself over to a nest to sleep. I’m going to see how she is in the morning but has anyone had this happen? I had a pullet this year that hurt her foot (it recovered on its own) but have never seen a bird lying on her back like that. Help!

You're going to need to examine her thoroughly. In particular, you'll want to examine her both visually and by touch her hips, thighs, ankles, top & bottom of her feet. And while you've got her, you may as well check under her wings and at the base of her tail for mites or lice. You're looking for swelling, bruising, cuts, breaks and bumble foot in her legs, toes and feet. Chickens go to great lengths to hide their injuries and illnesses so you can't count on her making much fuss if you come to a tender spot so you'll need to observe her very closely. One 'tell' that is common among chickens is closing their eyes when they're uncomfortable or in pain. On another tangent; Is she acting as if paralyzed or partially paralyzed?
You said she's two years; Do you know when she last laid an egg? Any change in color of her comb and waddles? How's her poop look?
Pictures speak a thousand words, and many educators on the site can use them to help diagnose problems with your hen.
