Good morning everyone! I'm brand new to joining the forum. I currently have (or had I should say) a small flock of 18mixed breeds that include Cochins, Phoenix, Japanese bantam, leghorns and several others including a pair of ducks.
My question more a mini story, my flock was initially much bigger roughly 30 with 9 young ones that were introduced in last couple weeks to the group. I raised the chicks from hatching(purchased from local breeder) My coop is a double side very large area with nesting boxes and separate doors leading to a big fenced pen with a pond. We have a horse farm & Aussies as working dogs. My problem, the Aussies over the weekend sadly bulldozed their way through the pen fence and got into the coop. I call it a massacre because that's exactly what it was I lost many of them. Heartbreaking to say the least. The pen has since been reinforced to prevent another attack.
One specific Hen, had been sitting on a pile of eggs both her own and another's for at least 3 weeks now. Since the massacre, she has not returned to the eggs and I worry they will not hatch. They were all very stressed due to this and that's to be expected, I am thinking because of it that's why she hasn't returned? She was huddled up with many of the survivors behind the large nesting box horrified. I checked her over and returned her to her eggs but she left them right away and never went back.
Thoughts??
