I've been around awhile in the FB group, my wife before me. I'll take a gander....wait wrong species of bird...at the intro questions!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
-Grew up with chickens, ducks, rabbits, everything, thanks Dad! Three years ago we moved to our rural farm in south central MN. Then last year we started our first flock with 7 ladies. Oh and two ducks...well one turned out to be a drake *shrug*, gender confusion.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
-We have 7 hens from the initial flock, and just yesterday got 6 more chicks. We are selling eggs and expanding!
(3) What breeds do you have?
-Initial hens were California Tans, I think Isa Browns, and one more breed that's generally white with some gray tint to them.
-New Chick breeds are Jersey Giant, Brahma, Crevecoeur (I'll never remember this spelling).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
-We appreciate the delicious eggs they provide. As someone enjoying self-sufficiency, it's an excellent source of protein.
-They are extremely friendly and fun to interact with. Their shenanigans could entertain me all day. It is also just fun to watch them grow and develop individual personalities.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
-Weight lifting, help wife garden, plink on the range, other self sufficiency topics.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
-Have a wife and daughter, 5 cats (yeah crazy), 1 lop bunny (most adorable thing ever), and whatever random critters are outside. Lately there's a familly of woodchucks that moved in...they're kinda adorable.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
-Wife showed me the FB group, and that led me to here.
