Hello! we are new to chicken raising. We've had 13 chickens since January and have had no problems with them until now. Of the 7 Rhode Island Reds we have, all 6 of them terrorize 1 poor hen with a crossed beak. We've tried keeping her by herself, but when she is anywhere near them, its terrible how they pounce on her and peck till she lies still as though she is dead! She has a crossed beak at the end. Hubbie is building a separate pen for her right now. Any help on helping her is greatly appreciated!

Oh wow poor girl! The only solutions are seperation or putting her with a more docile breed even though she is a RIR like her flockmates. RIR's tend to be slightly more agressive and they see her beak as a defect to be culled from the flock. Some breeds are waaay more serious about weeding out weakness than others and RIRs are up there. I am guessing her beak is beyond correction? :)

Thank you. Is there a way to correct her crossed beak?
