I've had hens for awhile but this year we moved to the country and finally have a rooster as well. I have a small flock of Breda and a mixed flock of Serama and OEBs that run with them. The small hens are often broody and I've been able to hatch 3 clutches of Breda eggs from them. The first set went as I expected but with the second bunch of eggs, about halfway through the setting period a second bantam hen joined the first one on the nest. They either took turns or sat on the nest together and are now co-parenting the resulting chicks. For the third set, 2 bantam hens started sitting on the same nest on the same day, stuck to the nest through a move out of the coop and into my rabbit barn (another hen decided to go on an egg-smashing rampage and I was trying to protect this nest) and are now co-parenting the chicks. 3 days ago, I went to coop everyone up and found 2 Breda hens sitting together in the barn on a single egg. How common is this?
