I have kept booted bantams for about 20 years. I have had some problems with deformed feet eg missing nails and toes over the years. I do not breed my hens and check their nails on a regular basis,
I have a 18 months lavender hen who.has gone lame on one leg about 10 days ago. . She is holding it out in front of her. Her foot is strong and not floppy She was definitely unhappy with her lot.
I thought she had caught it on some thing and sometimes they do get under my feet and I have stood on their feathers
On examining her feet I found she had extra bits of skin on her feet in knobbles.. I started with bathing in antiseptic, drying and sprayed with antibiotic spray and once the spray was dry I would cream her feet. There was no real heat in her foot.
Unfortunately she lost her nail, it just fell off which was horrific while I was drying. It has healed well since.
She is on her own and in a confined area with outside space
She is happier, preening, eating a bit getting about a little in and had a dust bath today.
Can anyone offer me help ongoing
