hens laying in the winter

does winter weather slow down hens laying eggs? this is my first full winter with layers and the count on my eggs per day is going down. im just wondering if during the winter they stop for a period of time?

Shortened day light hours can cause a reduction in egg production. First year pullets are more likely to lay through the winter than older birds.

yea that makes sense. If my first year pullets just started laying about a week ago (which i know is kind of late in the year to start) will they keep going all winter or wait until spring.

If your first year pullets are laying now, there is a good chance they will keep laying the rest of the winter.
