Hi everyone

Just a couple of questions, i have 8 hens and I'm only getting 1 egg a day it has been like this for a couple of weeks could i be doing something wrong or could it just be the weather? As it is winter over here in Australia and where i live it has been raining , i havnt hanged their food patterns or anything like that( well not that i can think of ) any help and suggestions would be much appreciated

Weather will effect laying patterns due to decreased lighting. You can provide extra light for more eggs. Keep in mind that your birds may stop laying all together in the winter if they aren't hardy. It could also be on account of their age, birds older than 2 years will slow down on laying all together. Check for mites as well just in case.

Thanks whittni
My chickens are only 13 months old so not to old yet lol, i had a feeling it would be the weather as it gets really cold i the mornings like i mean it gets down to 3-4 degrees and during the days laterly it has been pretty overcast, fingers crossed the egg laying picks up a bit when the warmer weather comes back

I've noticed that often young chickens experiencing their first winter tend to not lay that year.
