Hey all, first time chicken owners here. Wondering if we have hens or roosters now that they are getting older, around 3 months old. We have a Blue Americana and a Light Brahma. Pretty sure the Light Brahma is indeed a hen. But the Blue Americana is looking more like a rooster based on the comb and tail feathers. Plus, it attempted to crow this morning. Any advice on these two? Really hoping we have hens as my wife and daughter are very attached. Thanks in advance for any info. 20190706_112308.jpg

Yeah pretty obvious I guess. So what are our options for adding a new chick to replace him? Should we find a home for both of them and start over with 2 new chicks? Or keep the brahma? How would we introduce a new chick to the brahma?

I have about 3-4 different ages of chickens/ chicks. Never had a problem with them being mean to each other. I did find that if the chicks are in a brooder box where the older chicks can see the younger ones, they get along very well when you put them together later.

I would try to buy sexed chicks or started pullets. I’d also go with adding two, rather than one. Then, if you keep the Brahma (I think you should), you have three. If something happens to one, you don’t have a lone chicken again. It should be easy to integrate them, if you search up ‘integration’, BYC should bring up some good articles on how to do it successfully.
