Hen's paint shop broken!!

It is very interesting. We have had an exceptionally wet and cold time till this week. (Started before the weather got nicer) I went and bought some mineral/grit supplements to see if that helps. I went to wash one of my maran eggs today, and the brown literally washed off, (not the bloom, the actual egg color). I am wondering if it is something they are adding to our water, does anyone know if chlorine or floride will cause this?

I have well water and do get this problem when the weather changes 'suddenly' so there's noting in my water (but iron).

Oh and I'm ignoring Deb, clearly if I do, I'll win.

How in the world can you ignore me. I check your posts every time I see you trying to kill a thread.

On topic, when I wash particularly dirty eggs, the color does come off somewhat but certainly doesn't all come off.

As an aquarium person, I would definitely get over to the water department to get a current report. Sounds like something is not quite right where you are. Yes, when cities change their chemicals us fish enthusiasts have lost hundreds and thousands of dollars in product.

Pfft....Well yeah!

And after last night I have to say water too.

We had a chicken fall into a water collection barrel and almost die of hypothermia and drown. So instead of going to dinner with dh we spent the evening bathing, blowing dry and coddling a stupid chicken! If he hadn't agreed to dinner out tonight so quickly I'd of thought he dunked her himself.

We have two ponds in the back and have never had a single chicken incident until now. The barrel now has a large cinder block in it so if they just stand up if they fall in they can walk out. Chickens!
