Hens sleep in nest box

My three hens are about 4 months old and sleep in their nest box instead of on the roost. They used the small roost while they were chicks, but in the hen house they squeeze together in the nest box. What can I do? Help!

My hens sleep on the outside roost in the run during the summer, but in the winter they sleep in the nest boxes.

It just leaves the nestboxes a mess and have to clean them out every day!

Try going out once it's dark and they are hunkered down in their nest boxes. I recommend waiting till it's dark and they've been in for at least 30 minutes so they are sleeping and will put up less resistance.

Then pick them up one by one and put them up on the roosting bar. I had to do this with my girls when they were around that age to show them the drill.
