Last night I keep hearing noises from my chicken house I thought is might be seal my disable chicken she deformed foot. When I went to check the noise it stoped. they were all fine. So tonight I was locking them up for the night and I heard it again. One hen would stomp her feet and a few seconds later a different hen would stomp back. Is this normal are they not happy? Or stress out. My 2 male ducks are driving them crazy I am looking for homes for them. I order some female ducks to replace them. Righ now I only got one female duck and I don't want her to alone. She try's to spend time with the hens and it's all good intill the drakes come around. Ok iam done rambling. Any input would be helpful.

I've never heard of a hen stomping. Sounds kind of cool, actually, as I know a lot of different other species of animals communicate through stomping their feet.

Do you see them do it?

Mine used to stomp. Maybe they still do and I don't notice anymore. They would stomp around and around and around in the nest boxes before laying. Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp......pause.......repeat. Astonishing. But, communicating by stomping... that's new. Wonders never cease.

Stomping feet on the roost at night might mean you have night feeding mites.
Go out well after dark with a white paper towel and wipe the bottom of the roost, small red streaks on the towel indicates feeding mites.

I went out and check no mites but omg Mosquitos there nothing tonight I kill a few with my electric fly tennis racket thing freak out the girls. I brought up my shop vac and I am going to vac the roof of the coop and put screens in the vent holes and I don't know what else to do. The Mosquitos are really bad this year. I have a small pool for the ducks but I put some mosquito donut thing in the water its spouse to help..

Let me know something better to kill the little blood suckers.

Its the year of the mosquitos! They are actually creating genetically altered males to try and reduce numbers they are so high. We can't go on walks because we are constantly bitten. Its the damp air and all the rain causing the out-break.
