Well I have 16 babies that are 15 days old. Three of them are Rhode Island Whites. ONE of those girls has no tail developing! She DID have the pasty butt issue when she got here and for 2 days I carefully cleaned her off. Did I pull out her tail feathers or what? In addition to that she is the only bird who has a little scabby thing under her vent which is where I think I read they were attached to the inside of the egg...any input here? Whats up with that?

she may not be entirely purebred-might have some rumpless aracuana in her. either she'll never develop much of a tail or she's just a little late

i wouldn't worry about having pulled out feathers either...she's have squawked and let you know.

Funny thing too...she is the only bird who doesnt run when I stick my arm in there and hangs out to see what Im doing. Her name is Annie Oklie.

UMMMMMMM not to rain on your parade but I am thinking that Annie might be an Arnie. Not a 100% or anything but feathering out differently (slower or faster depending on breeding) and super friendly could be signs of a little roo. Can you post pictures?

That would be a drag if she was a he. I already have 2 of those! I just took this a few minutes ago. The other 2 RI birds have tails about 1 inch long now. This birds face and wings look the same as those others if that makes any difference.

Breathe now. Nothing on that bird looks particularly roo-ish, yet.

I have one of those. Dad was a RIR and Mom is a EE. She has no tail. Had the same problem with pasty butt as a chick. I now have a problem of poopy bottom. It gets stuck to the fluffy feathers below the vent. She's now 9 wks old but these were taken at about 5 wks.

Well it is all a mystery. The babies came from IDEAL and 2 are supposed to be black Jersey Giants...they were a charcoal grey until they started to feather and are now half white feathers and half charcoal fuzz. Obviously NOT black Giants! Who knows what this tail less girl is!
