This is Captain Jack at one week old he had a defined comb so I decided he must be a rooster. These pics are him at 12weeks now I'm not so sure. He doesn't seem to act like a rooster however I am not an expert. I am only going by what I've read and how my barred rock rooster acted as a young roo. Of course Captain Jack is an Easter Egger so I'm sure different breeds behave in there own way. My BR rooster was trying to crow at a very early age Captain Jack hasn't even attempted. However he does sound different compared to my other EE babies kinda like he swallowed a frog. His "spurs" are not any bigger than the others and he is very timid. Soooo any idea?????

This is Bananas I have some concerns that she may be a rooster as well. She does not have a comb whatsoever BUT hers is very red and she is very feisty. All my baby EEs are 12weeks old and have the same size "spurs" which is nothing but a little bump any thoughts.oooops wrong forum

All they look like hens. EE rooster will have 3 rows of ridges in their combs, hens have 2. Plus I don't see any saddle feathers at this age. Gonna say both are hens.

Our EE was crowing at 5 weeks. Not saying all would start that young, but you'd probably see that by 12 weeks.

Good looking Captain Jacqueline you got there. ;)

I agree, both are pullets.

I have had at least five EE hens that looked just like Bananas and Capn Jack (well, extremely similar - each chicken is an individual and I can tell them apart, but you know what I mean).

Plus EE roosters of that particular type have MUCH more white and/or speckled feathers on the chest and sides, with mahogany shoulders...
