Well, my little boy chick that I brought home in November is now a proper adult rooster. I saw him climb on the back of one of the little red hens today. Poor girl, he's about twice her size. It didn't seem to last very long, is that normal? Did she just do a good job of getting rid of him?

Do I need to think about getting more girls? He has seven hens with him now. Should I look into getting a few more to raise so he has enough "to do?"

Sounds fine to me. Yes, mating is usually pretty quick.

He is doing fine as he will learn as time goes on, perfect amount of hen's too, sounds like you are well on your way.

even with more girls he will still have a favorite! 7 sounds fine for 1 roo. i currently have 2 boys in with my 7 eerrr... now 8 ladies and a few of them look a little over done on the feathers. one of my boys is a sneak and a little rough trying to get on top of the bigger girls while my main boy isn't looking. they both seem to favor the same bantam black cochin and the poor girl is showing it this past week-bald head (no broken skin though
