Hey Everyone! Super excited to be a member of Chicks family

Congratulations on joining this group before you get chickens. I wish I had done that! I'm still using my first coop, a homemade one I bought off Craigslist. But, with subsequent coops, I learned that the design of my original coop could have been better.

Some beginner advice you'll hear repeatedly is to build a bigger coop than you think you will need and to make sure you predator proof it like mad. Research your breeds so they work for you: egg-layers, meat birds or dual purpose, as well as heat- and cold-hardiness; temperament; and their ability to fly (I prefer big-bodied girls who don't fly off the property). Also, keep in mind the size and color of eggs your girls will produce and whether you want a rooster.

BYC folks will be happy to help you with any and all challenges, just ask! Welcome to our flock, Lisa!
