Thanks everyone I was sure he was,,,but he kept sitting in nest boxes so i assumed he was hen

My roosters do that often (when they have access to nest boxes during breeding--most of the time they're only with other males). They seem to think its fun to go into a nest, make tuk-tuk noises, and get the hens to come over and see the nest. But of course, when the hens come, the roosters refuse to get out of the nest--poor hens don't know what to think.

So when are they sexually mature and is it ok to eat the eggs as not had a rooster before,,,would love chicks too but not sure the neighbours would like the crowing

I believe that roosters are sexually mature at 5-7 months of age. However, mine don't usually begin seriously mating hens until they're older. And yes, its okay to eat fertilized eggs. As long as the eggs aren't incubated, a chick won't develop, and they'll look almost exactly the same as a non-fertilized egg.
