I'm new to chickens. We got 8 pullets (I think that's what they're called) in late April - 4 Easter Eggers and 4 Rhode Island Reds so they're about 4 months old. I can't wait until they start laying in the next couple of months.
We live on a 13-acre ranch in the middle of nowhere and we love it. It's just my hubby and me as far as humans go. But pretty soon our daughter is moving on the property with her newborn (who has yet to arrive). As far as other animals go we have four horses, two dogs, and two Ornate Box Turtles. There are a lot of predators around here but so far our chicken ladies have been safe, safe, safe. Hubby built them a strong enclosure with a kickass coop that looks like a little house.
I can only tell 3 of the 8 chickens apart so far. Lucille and Raquel are super friendly. Vivien is super standoffish. I have leg bands to add to help me out but I just haven't done it yet.
I'm a copywriter by trade so I'm lucky to work from home. Hubby is retired. I have a ton of reading to do to learn more about our flock. So happy to be here.
