My fiance and I are from central Maine and we have had laying hens forever. RI reds, whites, and barred rocks for now. In the spring we will be getting new hens cuz ours are getting old and hopefully an interesting new breed we haven't had before! (My vote is for cochins... although I'm not sure if they are a great laying breed.)
I just got silkies in the spring and plan on getting more through ebay cuz mine are not as fuzzy as I'd like. (I posted pics on the silkie genetics and showing thread this morning.)
I think chickens are way smarter than people give them credit for and all I want is a house chicken! But my fiance hasn't given in... yet.
I've told him about the chicken diapers but no luck. Anyone out there have house chickens that can give me a hand here?
We also raise pigs in the summer thru fall and raised and slaughtered our first two steers recently as well
Quite exhausting but our freezers are full.
