I have been reading posts here for a while but decided it was time to register an account and say hello!
We've got 7 (hopefully) pullets who are currently indoor chickens for a few more weeks. It's still snowing here and they are only about a month old so 30-35* is not their jam. My kids and I are planning to start building their coop and run in the next week if it would stop snowing already.
These little ladies came from the feed store that my cousins run on the family farm but it's our first time raising backyard chickens. My boys are 14, 13 and 11 and we also have 3 dogs and a gecko. We're usually a pretty busy family with jobs, school, sports and things but with everything closed right now for the COVID-19 outbreak, I thought it would be a great time to raise some chicks and build a coop. We'd wanted chickens for a while but just never had enough time for the start-up and now we have nothing but time.
We have a white leghorn, wellsummer, barnevelder, mystic maran, russian orloff and 2 wyandottes (golden laced and black laced red). So far all of them seem to be pullets. One of the wyandottes had me worried because she's a tiny bit pink in the beak but she seems girly enough for now. Our town does not allow roosters so here is hoping she co-operates.
Glad to met you all and thanks for all the info I have already learned before signing up!
