You've certainly come to a great place to learn about all aspects of chickens and chicken raising. I hope you and your husband get a place soon where you can have all the Silkies and Polish chickens that you want.

If you haven't already checked into them, Faverolles are a nice, friendly, cool-looking breed you might like. My Salmon Favs are pretty laid back and have the typical fluffy faces and legs -- along with the extra toes!

Welcome to BYC, NinaSmithers!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Unfortunately, it is a fact of poultry keeping. Sometimes they get sick or injured and you must let them go to end their suffering. If you start allowing broodies to set eggs, it isn't practical for most chicken keepers to keep all the males. They must be removed from the flock as well but they can go to other flocks, not necessarily a freezer.
