my best chicken friend of all time was a rescue chicken who i pulled out of a los angeles shelter.

have a heart and adopt a shelter chicken!

not that long ago i was at the shelter in south gate, and they had a bunch of chickens locked up... they said they were taken because they were used for fighting... but only two were english game standards, and the rest were like, BCM's and RIR's... i wanted them, but they said they were going to be put down... i got mad and left...

they had them in a small room that wasn't ventilated or anything...

that's awful.
i've seen the way they keep "evidence" chickens in l.a. county and it's deplorable.

that said, the chickens that are posted as "adoptable" are, actually for adoption. they won't post pics of animals that are being held as evidence. so if you are in the market to adopt a shelter chicken please take a look at the list. depending on the shelter the workers are usually relieved that someone is actually interested in pulling a chicken. when i was able to keep roosters i ran a little underground rooster railroad where i would pull roos out of the shelter so that i could find them homes (they get pulled the least and are frequently euthanized). some of the kinder shelter managers who actually care about the animals in their care would sometimes just hand me the roosters without any paperwork/money exchange because they knew i was trying to save their lives. then again, some shelter employees are robots who don't seem to care . . .

at any rate, if you see a pic of a chicken you are interested in pursue it!
