I’m Katie,
This is my families first flock! We’ve grown up with chickens but, never our very own chicks! We’re very excited! As of now we currently have a group of 16! I believe 1 Rooster and 15 gals. As far as breeds go we purchased a rare assortment and I am certain we have, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Salmon Faverolles..now for the uncertain.... I believe, 1 Plymouth Barred Rock (roo), 1 feather- footed cuckoo maran, 1 black and white spotted (mystery gal), and the rest are solid black hens (grayish/black feet). We love our chicks, they’re already so friendly! We can’t wait to teach our kids another way to be responsible and take care of something and reap the benefits of fresh eggs! Our flock will be completely for hobby and eggs. Thanks!

Welcome! I'm fairly new as well, 15 hens & 1 rooster. Lots of first hand experience learning will be had. Nice to have a forum with so much info! Good luck with your new flock! How old are they?

Hey! I completely agree! I learn something new everyday, and I enjoy being able to spend the afternoons learning all their little personalities! Our flock is about 7 weeks old.

They are so fun to watch, unless they are being chased by a fox! Our rooster started crowing (trying) about 13 weeks, at 18 weeks, started protecting the flock more, and has been trying to mount them since about 16 weeks. They aren't ready, and don't like him holding theirs necks while doing so. They are getting more attentive to their surroundings. Have fun!
