(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
No I am not new to chickens I've had them twice over my lifetime now first batch were demonic little brats second a complete 160. . . But I am new to Quail which is what I am currently raising.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 5 freshly hatched conturnex quails
(3) What breeds do you have?
Conternex quails jumbo I believe ordered eggs to see how many of a dozen would if any hatch jokes on me 5 made it and 2 stopped growing or it would have been 7. . .
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love watching them and just talking to them
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I'm currently training my own service animal for diabetic alert and balance assistance. I also have 7 other birds 6 parakeets and a cockatiel. I crochet which came in handy when the eggs started to hatch I made a mat for the incubator and read also down to binge watch a good series
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
It's just me currently for family I have a great dane poodle mix service dog in training who thinks these ity bity chicks are her puppies. . . I have 7 other birds as stated above and 2 cats one is about to be rehomed to a house with no dogs as she is skittish now around my dog they were okay till they weren't and I'm diabetic and got bit by the cat when the service dog alerted to a low sugar while holding said cat they were literally fine till that happened I will say in cats defense if a big old pupper was jumping up on a human I was being held by yeah I'd try and bite something too. . .
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found backyard chickens googling 101 questions on quail because I honestly did not expect to hatch 5 chicks let alone one some one had done it and I was reading the article on Facebook and was like sure let's give this a go. . . I'm not going to say never again but I am going to think it through better. . .
