(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? (2) How many chickens do you have right now? (3) What breeds do you have?

To answer the first three questions, I am new to chickens, but my husband isn't. He raised chickens in 4-H as a kid while I did a steer, 2 goats, and a hog. We don't have any chickens yet and we're not sure what breeds we're getting. We haven't decided if we were go to order online or go to Tractor Supply or a feed store.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Found this website while googling coop/run plans as well as brooder ideas.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Love doing DIY stuff and crafts.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm a stay at home mom with an 18 month old toddler who keeps me going all day long. My husband and I are born and raised Texans. We have two dogs, German shepherd mix and a chihuahua mix. We also create YouTube videos, mostly for fun and to easily share our lives with our family that is spread all over the US (we don't get to see them often).

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

You also may want to check out your state thread and see if there are BYCERS in the area that may have the breeds you are interested in. If they are serious breeders, their stock should be better quality and hopefully have been raised without cutting corners.

Also you could avoid the trauma of shipping.
