  6. I live in Alabama with my wife and two sons. We have one dog, one cat, two guinea pigs, one goldfish. Retired (future chicken raiser, Chickeneer?, Chickenologist?, Doctor of Fowlery?,...).
  7. I found BYC while browsing my fB friends' likes. I've known about BYC for about an hour. I want to learn as much as possible before investing in chickens. :D

It's great to learn as much as you can before diving in. It will help reduce beginner mistakes and you'll get a better feel for how to design a good coop and manage your flock.

Important things to know; Chicken math is real. You cannot avoid it. Chickens are addictive. You cannot resist it. Chickens multiply unexpectedly... :lol:
4 ft.² per chicken in the coop, 8-10 ft.² in the run.
One nest box will be preferred, so you don’t need one box for every bird. One box per every four will usually do the job.
