heyo folks!

My family had chickens while I was a teenager, and now with my own family we've been raising egg and meat birds for about six years or so. Last head count was 22 birds, at least two are roo roos but we weeded out all the mean ones!
We have a handful of breeds. My favorite is some dark brown girls that lay brown eggs, they came from a commercial farm during molting season. The best of the bunch we named "Squish Beak" or just "squish" for short, due to a beak deformity. She got a pretty rough respiratory infection last year so we kenneled her for a while and hand fed her, and she's been my lil buddy ever since!
We farm out (no pun intended) the daily chicken maintenance to our older two boys, 12 and 10, and it's tough to get them to stay consistent. I hope they'll look back later in life and see how much they've grown and learned just by doing these simple chores!

I work at the airport as an aircraft mechanic, so with six kids and a night shift job, I don't have many extra-curricular activites. But when I do get time, I really enjoy working on my 1967 VW beetle. It was my "quick project" I bought in late 2019 before the world exploded and I started funneling money and time into homestead infrastructure! I also roast coffee at home, my wife wants me to sell it as a side gig, but it's a lot of work to roast one pound at a time.

We have two rural acres about seven miles north of Memphis out in the county. This year our goal is to finish fencing in all the way around and potentially start with some goats, ducks, and a pony or horse. Fences cost a lot of money, but the other part is how much time it takes. Even with a tractor and PTO post hole auger it's all just time consuming and expensive work!
Welcome. Very good pictures.
